What Is Electronic-Data-Interchange?

Monday, March 19th, 2007

Electronic-Data-Interchange, or EDI is a method of computer to
computer exchange of various types of information. While many
people know of the internet and the World Wide Web as
communication methods, the electronic-data-interchange is much
similar. It allows the transfer of data from one place to the
next with very minimal need for people to get involved.

Today, the Electronic-Data-Interchange is regulated. It offers
specific interchange methods that transpire overseas and
nationally as standard bodies when it comes to moving
information and business transactions from one place to the
next. For example, this is the most common form of communication
in the process of purchasing goods and services. Communication
for the location to the financial institution to deliver a
message of the amount of funds required, in this case, is what
data will be transferred.

In most cases, the information that is transmitted in an
electronic data interchange is done so that companies can
communicate. They can provide information to allow business
transactions or the passage of very important information. For
example, in the healthcare industry they can be used to help
communicate through the network about a patient allowing for a
faster method of receiving information. This technology is still
being developed in many areas, though.

In fact, more and more so, people are turning to
Electronic-Data-Interchange as their means of communication
especially with more people turning to the Internet. The
Electronic-Data-Interchange allows for networks of all sorts to
communicate and this is helping ecommerce as a great way for
companies to buy, sell or trade information and services. In
fact, ANSI has just approved a set of
Electronic-Data-Interchange standards. They are known as the X12
standards. Nonetheless, you will see more and more people using
them because more and more people are getting online to do just
these things.

Graphic Creations With Software

Sunday, March 18th, 2007

A basic understanding of computers is all a person needs to
create their own graphics with today\’s design software. Even
with just small amount of design understanding, people can still
use simple design programs to build their own cartoons strips,
holiday cards, flyers and invitations. Your business and
yourself can save money on special occasions by using one of the
several user friendly affordable programs that are out there.

The number one choice for design software by both professionals
and amateurs is Adobe PhotoShop. By cropping, recoloring and
adding special effects, PhotoShop allows users to change photos
anyway they wish. Entirely new pictures can also be created by
using special drawing tools, or existing pictures can be
modified anyway the user desires. PhotoShop uses a system of
\”layers.\” By using layers, separate pieces of a picture can be
changed while keeping the changes separate. For example, you can
change the color on the bottom layer without affecting the color
on the top layer. If you wish to draw more than creating full
pictures, Adobe Illustrator may be the choice for you.

PhotoShop is a pixel-based program while Adobe Illustrator is
vector based. What does this mean your probably asking yourself?
When you make a picture in PhotoShop, you must use a certain
resolution. A computer screen displays 72 pixels per inch for a
clear picture, but when you print a 72 dpi picture, it appears
blocky and blurred. If you are making a picture for printing in
PhotoShop, you need to use 300 pixels per inch to get a nice,
sharp image. Because Illustrator is vector-based, it uses a
system of paths rather than pixels. In simple terms, it uses
lines rather than colors. This means that everything you create
in Illustrator can be enlarged up to any size you wish without
ever becoming blurry or grainy. Designers often use Illustrator
software to build logos for a variety of advertisements. The
same picture or logo drawing can be used on a small business
card or enlarged to fill an entire billboard.

For those wishing to create simple greeting cards or party
invitations, there is a variety of user friendly software
programs made specifically for these purposes. Many offer
templates for several print sizes and folding options. For the
more experienced user, the software program Quark is an
excellent print layout tool. Adobe InDesign also offers
professional quality layout options along with many of the same
tools used in Adobe PhotoShop and Illustrator. If you are to use
these two programs, you will easily be able to create
professional quality materials with InDesign.

There is a wide variety of file types used in graphic software
programs. Most have their own native formats that can only be
read by the parent programs. PhotoShop files have a .PSD
extension, and Illustrator files are AI, making them only
accessible by PhotoShop. When you are working with a work in
progress, it is a good idea to save files in these formats, as
they offer you the greatest flexibility in altering your
creation. However, once you have completed your work and are
ready to print your materials, you can save them in a variety of
ways. Web pictures should saved as JPEGs, GIF or TIFF files.
Pictures ready for printing are best saved as EPS files, to
preserve color accuracy. If you plan to send graphics via
e-mail, PDF offers the greatest flexibility, as most computers
have Acrobat Reader, the program needed to read the PDF file
type.

No matter what software fits your needs, making digital graphics
can be a enjoyable and simple hobby, or even a professional
career. It can take some time to get used to the terminology,
but once you learn the tools of digital art, you will be on your
way to building functional and decorative graphic masterpieces
to share with the electronic world.

Shocking Facts about Updating Your PC Operating System

Saturday, March 17th, 2007

Many everyday Internet Users do not know why they must keep
their computer Operating Systems Up-To-Date – and many don\’t
even know what an Operating System is! From \”ignorance is bliss\”
to \”surprise attack and disaster\” – how many thousands of
Internet users have experienced this frustration and grief?

This raises the obvious question: \”Why haven\’t they prepared to
avoid it?\”

The startling fact is that there are many long term Internet
users who have never even considered updating their Operating
Systems and protective Safe-ware.

Perhaps the complexity of it all contributes to what might be
described as User apathy – or indifference and a lack of
enthusiasm toward the following:

* The news of yet another vulnerability or patch process.

* The potential damage to computer, personal information and
reputation – i.e. the \”It can\’t happen to me\” attitude.

* Their own abilities – i.e. \”I\’m too old, too dumb, too
whatever – to learn how to fix a computer without breaking
something.\”

* Updating – i.e. \”My computer came with an anti-virus program,
so why does it need to be updated now?\”

The sad fact is that the lack of confidence people have in their
ability to build a defense often leads to a reluctance to even
accept the reality of Cyber Threats.

Some of the lesser-experienced Internet users rationalize their
lack of action with pessimism, even defeatism. Human nature
often supports these excuses with defensive attitudes and
mis-beliefs like:

* False sense of disaster support – \”My nephew, neighbor, son or
whoever, is a computer whizz. They\’ll be able to fix the problem
if anything ever happens.\”

* Scepticism – \”All this talk about viruses is just so the \”news
people\” will have information for publishing, and so the
software manufactureres can scare people into buying more of
their products.\”

* Ignorance (of the extent of deception, skills and
sophistication that the malicious hackers have attained).

* Disbelief (that personal computer might be infected and used
by others to spread malicious viruses and worms). \”My computer
seems to be working ok – a little slow, maybe, but it is getting
pretty old.\”

* Overwhemed (too many choices with firewalls, anti-virus,
anti-spam, anti-spyware, Trojan removers). \”Why do I need all of
these and which ones should I use?\” or \”Do I really need to
update my Operating System, my anti virus, spam, spyware
stuff?\”…I\’ll just never learn how to do all of this.

* Expense (How much will all this cost and is it really
necessary?)

* Fatalism – \”Hey, if it\’s going to happen, it will, and I\’ll
just junk my computer and get another one. Mine\’s getting kind
of old, anyway.\”

Here, then, are the Shocking facts about updating PC Operating
Systems.

There are many unaware Internet users who have been online for
years, but lack in these ares:

* They don\’t know what \”Updating\” really means.

* They have never responded to the popup message associated with
the icon in the Task tray that announces new Windows Updates.

* They have never clicked on the Windows Update icon in the
Program Start menu.

* They have never visited the Microsoft Windows Update web page
at http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com.

* They have never updated their PC Operating Systems.

Even if they have been able to navigate to the Microsoft Update
webpage, many just throw up their hands in despair at the
overwhelming number of choices and unknowns, such as:

* Choosing what to update from the long list of options.

* Waiting for Windows to check the registry for available
updates.

* Deciphering the Update descriptions (and instructions).

* Selecting or Removing the necessary options.

* Starting the download.

And oftentimes, many people have never even used the Windows
Help information to find out how to update their computer
Operating Systems.

How many self taught or untrained computer users are going to
persevere through all of the hassle described above? Is it any
wonder so many computers become infected? The criminal Hackers
building their bot and zombie armies have nearly an open and
undefended playing field; many are using it every day to steal
money and identities.

So, what is the solution to this problem?

If individuals with computer \”understanding\” would help and
assist others with less knowledge, there would probably be less
of a problem.

Nearly everyone who has faithfully kept their PC Operating
Systems and Safe-ware up to date surely has family members and
friends who could benefit from an hour or so of basic
instructions. This would make it much more difficult for the
criminal Hackers to compromise another persons computer.

Hacker\’s would eventually be faced with a growing number of
adequately protected computers, educated Users and hopefully
would finally give-up trying!
