Used laptops are a great deal

Looking for a cheap alternative for portable computing? Check
out used or refurbished laptops. Used and refurbished laptops
can save you lots of money while providing you with all the
bells and whistles that a new computer offers. Years ago a used
laptop meant that you would be computing in the stone age, today
used laptops offer great speeds, excellent accessories and most
come preloaded with valuable software. It is hard to go wrong
with a used or refurbished laptop.

When buying a used or refurbished laptop make sure that it fits
your needs. Create a list of the accessories and hardware that
is you need. Most people are happy with a 700 Megahertz chip,
others need at least 1 GHZ. Make sure that the laptop has ample
storage such as a 20 GB hard drive or at least 256 MB ram. You
might find that you can do with less but make sure that your
computing tasks will be handled properly with the used or
refurbished computers. If you want a CD player or DVD player
make sure the laptop comes equipped with these accessories.

Depending on the type of used or refurbished laptop you are
buying will determine the prices. You will probably be saving
hundreds of dollars buying used. Many laptops can cost as little
as $300. Whether buying on line or at a store make sure that
there is a return policy or if you receive the product DOA they
will fix it. It is always possible to have problems with vendors
so make sure that you are clear on the terms of the sale. Most
vendors are legitimate and most people do have an extremely good
buying experience, but do your homework.

MS Windows & Virus Updates

With so many viruses and hackers trying to break into our
computers, we need to be vigilant in the steps we take to
protect ourselves. There are plenty of tools that help computer
users protect their computers from viruses, spyware, malware and
holes in important software that we use each day. Here are some
tips to keeping your computer safe and up to date.

Having a virus scan software program is not enough; you must
make sure that you keep these virus scans up to date. There are
many new viruses that are created each day and if your virus
scan software is not up to date it won’t be able to stop a virus
from infecting your computer. Therefore it is extremely
important to make sure you update your virus scan software each
day or at least weekly to prevent viruses and other malware from
taking control of your computer.

Most virus scan up dates are available free of charge with your
virus scan’s original purchase. You can usually open up your
virus scan and click on update for your virus scan software to
get the latest up to date files necessary to protect your
computer.

Most people that use windows also need to be protected. Many
hackers try to find holes in Windows operating systems or
Internet Explorer in order to cause damage or take over peoples
computers. If you own these programs you can go to Microsoft’s
web site and download free of charge any software update that is
necessary to protect your computer. Microsoft will usually have
a utility that will check your computer for the important files
that you need. So if you want to be protected make sure you
receive your daily computer updates.

Making Your Laptop Wireless Enabled

Make Your Laptop Wireless Enabled

Wireless technology or Wifi is probably the hottest technology
in laptop computers today. Many people love the convenience of
traveling with a laptop computer in order to do work and have
access to files on the road, but until a couple of years ago,
you weren’t able to access the internet unless you were
connected by a cord.

Today Wifi technology has skyrocketed in popularity. No matter
where you go you can find a Wifi Hot spot and pick up a signal
in order to surf the internet. In order for your computer to be
able to log onto the internet it must be wireless enabled. There
are two ways for your laptop to achieve the ability to access
the internet over a Wifi hotspot.

You can either have a laptop computer with Wifi technology built
in or you can purchase a Wifi card. Most of today’s new mid
level and upper level computers automatically come with Wifi
enabled compatibility built into the computer. All you need to
do is find a Wifi spot and log on. If your computer did not come
with Wifi built in then all you need is a Wifi card. These cards
are not that expensive and well worth it if you want to access
the internet without a cord. So if you want to surf the internet
no matter where you are, check out Wifi technology.
